Oatmeal Turtle Bars
The combination of caramel, chocolate and pecans is hard to resist. This gooey, sweet bar recipe is a bakery favorite, but you can make it at home!

This recipe comes to us from Land O’Lakes member-owner Richard Westra of Westra Dairy. These Oatmeal Turtle Bars, or Carmelitas, are a family-favorite that pair perfectly with a glass of cold milk or hot cup of coffee. The Westra family has sold these bars at many a bake sale to help raise money for charitable efforts and are proud that this family recipe, and all its deliciousness, supports a mission they love. Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour, divided2 cups uncooked quick-cooking oats

2 cups firmly packed brown sugar1 teaspoon baking soda
1
2 teaspoon salt1 1 Land O Lakes® Butter, cut into pieces
2 cups cold1 (12-ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans, if desired
1 (12.25-ounce) jar caramel ice cream topping
How to make

STEP 1
Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 13x9-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.

Combine 2 cups flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda and salt in large bowl. Cut in butter with pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Reserve half of mixture for topping; set aside.

Press remaining half of mixture into prepared pan. Bake 15 minutes. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and pecans, if desired.

Whisk together caramel topping and remaining 1/4 cup flour in medium bowl. Drizzle caramel mixture over pecans. Sprinkle with reserved crumb mixture. Bake 20-25 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Cool completely. Cut into bars.
