Butter Swim Biscuits
These popular biscuits are so named because pouring melted butter over batter in the pan gives the appearance of the batter "swimming" in butter. The resulting Cheddar-flecked biscuits are crisp around the edges with a fluffy interior. Set aside a few for a next-morning Cheddar Biscuit Breakfast Sandwich!

1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
4 ounces (1 cup) Land O Lakes® Sharp Cheddar Farmstyle Cut Shredded Cheese
2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
*Substitute 2 tablespoons lemon juice or vinegar plus enough milk to make 2 cups.
How to make
-
STEP 1
Heat oven to 450°F. Melt butter in 8-inch square glass baking dish in oven. Set aside.
-
STEP 2
Sift together flour, baking powder, garlic powder and salt in medium bowl. Stir in cheese and chives. Add buttermilk; gently stir until no loose flour remains, being careful not to overmix. Pour mixture over melted butter in prepared baking dish; gently push to edges. Cut dough into tic-tac-toe grid with 9 portions.
-
STEP 3
Bake 23-25 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Brush any excess butter bubbling up sides over tops of biscuits. Let stand 5 minutes before cutting through pre-scored biscuits. Serve warm.
-
STEP 4
Store any leftover biscuits tightly wrapped at room temperature up to 2 days.
Tip #1
Cutting the dough before baking allows the butter to surround each biscuit and helps them bake evenly.
Tip #2
Use any leftovers to build Cheddar Biscuit Breakfast Sandwiches to stash in the freezer for a quick morning meal.
