Ingredients
2 brioche buns, split
2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
1 pound ground beef
Salt and pepper, as desired
8 thin slices tomato
2 teaspoons vegetable oil, plus more as needed
4 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes® Yellow Deli American
4 lettuce leaves
4 to 6 thin slices red onion
4 to 6 hamburger-style pickle slices
How to make
-
STEP 1
Heat broiler.
-
STEP 2
Spread cut sides of each brioche bun with 1 tablespoon butter. Place onto baking sheet, butter-side up. Broil 1 minute or until buns are lightly toasted. Set aside.
-
STEP 3
Divide ground beef evenly into 4 balls; season with salt and pepper as desired.
-
STEP 4
Heat 12-inch stainless steel or cast iron skillet over medium heat. Add vegetable oil. When oil begins to shimmer but just before it begins smoking, place 1 ground beef ball into hot skillet. Cover ball with small piece parchment paper. Firmly smash down burger using heavy spatula or saucepan. Cook undisturbed 90 seconds or until burger forms dark crust. Turn patty over; cook 30 seconds. Top with 1 slice cheese. Cook additional 60-90 seconds or until bottom is browned and cheese is melted. Repeat with remaining patties, adding oil as needed.
-
STEP 5
Place 2 lettuce leaves and 2 slices tomato on bottom bun, then stack 2 patties and 2-3 slices each onion and pickles. Cover with top half of bun. Repeat with remaining ingredients.

The burger patty itself is just the beginning. Start with chicken, pork, veggies, a portabella mushroom or good, old-fashioned beef. Then heap on the flavors from there, with cheese, onions, salsa and even fruit.
