Ingredients

6 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter, divided

1 cup (1 medium) onion, chopped

1 pound lean ground beef (not less than 80% lean)

1 cup lager-style beer

3 tablespoons ketchup

3 tablespoons tomato paste

1 tablespoon yellow mustard

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

2 teaspoons chili powder

2 teaspoons Sriracha sauce

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon pepper

8 hot dog buns, uncut if available

1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh garlic

8 (3/4-ounce) slices Land O Lakes® Yellow Deli American

8 hot dogs

1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

2 tablespoons finely chopped red onion

*Substitute sliced LAND O LAKES® Cheddar Cheese.

How to make

  1. STEP 1

Melt 2 tablespoons butter in large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add 1 cup onion; cook 5 minutes or until lightly browned. Add beef; cook, stirring to break into smaller pieces, 5-6 minutes or until browned and cooked through. Stir in beer, ketchup, tomato paste, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, Sriracha sauce, cumin, garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper. Cook 5-10 minutes or until slightly thickened. Remove from heat.

  2. STEP 2

    Heat oven to 350°F.

  3. STEP 3

Place hot dog buns into 13x9-inch baking dish. Using serrated knife, cut hot dog-shaped rectangle in top of each bun, leaving about 1/2-inch border. Push bread in center down firmly to create well.

  4. STEP 4

Melt remaining 1/4 cup butter; stir in garlic. Brush tops of buns, including wells, with melted garlic butter. Bake 5 minutes. Remove from oven; place 1 slice cheese into each bun. Top each with about 2 tablespoons chili, 1 hot dog and another 2 tablespoons chili. Cover with aluminum foil; return to oven.

  5. STEP 5

Bake 10 minutes; remove foil. Bake 10 minutes longer or until cheese is melted and buns are toasted. Garnish with cilantro and red onion. Serve immediately.

Tip #1

Use any extra chili to assemble a quick queso.

Tip #2

You can also use split top buns instead of the unsliced. Prepare as directed without pressing bun to create well in center.
