Ingredients

2 cups (240 grams) all-purpose flour

1/3 cup sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

2/3 cup Land O Lakes® Butter, cut into pieces

1 tablespoon freshly grated lemon zest

3/4 cup buttermilk  

 

Additional sugar for sprinkling, if desired

 *Substitute 2 teaspoons vinegar or lemon juice plus enough milk to equal 3/4 cup. Let stand 5 minutes.

How to make

  1. STEP 1

    Heat oven to 425°F.

  2. STEP 2

    Combine flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda in large bowl. Cut in butter with pastry blender or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in lemon zest. Stir in buttermilk until well combined.

  3. STEP 3

    Drop by 1/2 cupfuls onto parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle tops generously with additional sugar, if desired. Bake 12-15 minutes or until deep golden brown.

  4. STEP 4

    Store any leftovers in covered container at room temperature.
