Ingredients
Brats
6 fully cooked bratwurst sausages
1
2 cup beer or apple juice1
4 cup firmly packed brown sugar1
4 cup spicy brown mustard6 bratwurst or hot dog buns, split
2 tablespoons Land O Lakes® Butter, softened
Toppings
Pickle relish, chopped onion, mustard and/or ketchup, as desired
How to make
-
STEP 1
Heat gas grill on medium or charcoal grill until coals are ash white.
-
STEP 2
Cut 4 (1/4-inch deep) slits in each bratwurst. Combine beer, brown sugar and mustard in 3-quart saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat 2-3 minutes or until mixture comes to a boil. Add bratwurst. Reduce heat to low; cook 5 minutes. Remove bratwurst from beer mixture. Reserve beer mixture.
-
STEP 3
Place bratwurst on grill. Brush generously with remaining beer mixture. Grill, turning once and brushing with beer mixture, 3-5 minutes or until bratwurst are browned and heated through.
-
STEP 4
Spread cut-sides of buns with butter. Grill bratwurst buns 1-2 minutes or until toasted. Serve with pickle relish, chopped onion, mustard and/or ketchup, as desired.
Tip #1
Cutting slits in the brats not only gives them an attractive appearance, but allows them to soak up the flavorful sauce as it cooks. Be sure to purchase fully cooked brats to keep the cook time to a minimum because uncooked brats will need to cook longer.
