Baking is obviously one of our favorite things in the Test Kitchen but we love even more when a recipe we've created inspires you to get into your kitchen and bake. World Baking Day is just another excuse to bake and share. Share with family, share with friends, or co-workers or neighbors. Baking brings people happiness and is there really anything better? Here are 11 recipes, inspired by sweets from around the world to hopefully inspire you.
-
United States – Apple Ginger Pie. Because there aren’t many things more American than a slice of apple pie a la mode. We've added ginger to the crust, filling and crumb topping for a subtle but impressive twist.
-
Turkey – Baklava. Flaky phyllo dough, crunchy walnuts, sweet honey – yes, please. Instead of a pan we've baked them into individual round servings.
-
Italy - Cannoli Cake. Inspired by a classic Italian dessert, vanilla sponge cake is frosted with amaretto ricotta frosting and is topped with pistachios and chocolate chips.
-
Australia / New Zealand – Cranberry Pavlova. A crisp outside, with a soft, airy inside, this baked meringue dessert was named after the Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. Replace the cranberry curd with lemon for a bright, summer dessert.
-
Spain - Churros with Chocolate Dipping Sauce Deliciously light, fried dough rolled in cinnamon sugar best served fresh and hot. Dipped in a quick chocolate sauce these are a must make.
-
Mexico – Tres Leches Cake with Berries. Three milks and fluffy sweetened whipped cream for the moistest cake you’ll ever eat.
-
Italy (again) – Almond Anise Biscotti. Dip in a cup of coffee and perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack.
-
England – Banoffee Pie. No, this isn’t a made up word! Bananas and toffee, need we say more? Yes? How about salted dark chocolate?
-
France – Flaky Buttery Croissants Making croissants at home is the perfect baking project to celebrate World Baking Day. It's a technique that takes time but is well worth the effort.
-
Germany – Black Forest Pudding Cake a variation inspired by Black Forest Cake this rich, moist pudding cake hits on the classic German flavors - chocolate and cherry. Don't judge the recipe by the photo, we promise it's delicious.
-
Belgium – Belgian-Style Waffles. Wait. Waffles? For dessert? Yes. Top with whipped cream (or ice cream), fresh fruit (or sprinkles), and chocolate sauce (or homemade hot fudge). See - dessert!
