Here’s one of my grilling mantras: If you can make it in the oven, you can make it on the grill. In fact, the little extra smoky flavor from the grill makes these Ham, Cheese and Spinach Crescent Roll-Ups even better.
You could make these as a side dish to go with a grilled dinner (how about alongside a
Grilled Caesar Salad ?). You could even make them about half the size and serve them as appetizers. But my favorite way to serve these cheesy, Italian-inspired rolls is as the star of an alfresco brunch — hot off the grill.
HAM, CHEESE AND SPINACH CRESCENT ROLL-UPS
Ingredients
1 (8-ounce) package refrigerated crescent rolls
Heat grill to medium high heat (350—400 degrees).
Create two heat zones on grill: direct and indirect.
- Direct heat zone : Food placed directly over the fire.
- Indirect heat zone : Food placed adjacent to—not directly over—fire.
Open can of crescent rolls and separate into pieces.
To assemble each roll, layer one piece of meat, 1/8 cup fresh spinach leaves and 1.5 slices of cheese on top of dough. Roll dough and layered ingredients, beginning at the wide end, from top to bottom to form a crescent. Place crescent rolls on foil.
Secure crescent rolls on top of a large double layer sheet of foil. Place on grill over indirect heat zone; close grill lid, and bake for 12 minutes or until golden.
Pair with Honey Mustard dipping sauce: combine equal amounts Dijon mustard and honey.
8 crescent roll-ups.
